black gold is a documentary-style reality television series that chronicles
three oil drilling rigs outside of odessa, texas. the title "black gold" comes
from a slang term for oil.
the series follows three rigs—longhorn, viking, and big dog—that have only 50
days to successfully locate and retrieve the crude oil. the roughnecks, as they
are called on the rig, endure exhausting, dangerous work demands and face
debilitating injury, permanent disfigurement or even death. the three rigs are
funded by independent oilmen autry stevens and mike lamonica who put up
millions of dollars in hopes of finding undiscovered deposits of oil. the show
also features pipe salesman michael “rooster” mcconaughey, brother of actor
matthew mcconaughey.
the "black gold" theme song is sung by country music star trace adkins.
it is produced by thom beers, creator of "deadliest catch" and "ice road
truckers."

the show description didn't help much at all. and i couldn't initially find it
on imdb. the words i was missing were "reality tv". all reality tv show should
have warnings on them.
there's no way i'm wasting bandwidth on unscripted crap.

you do that, but what's the point of posting this crap here? there are people
who enjoy "reality" tv and/or documentaries. i'm not one of them, but at the

i think this particular show, like its sister shows deadliest catch and ice
truckers is more documentary than reality. they're not based on some stupid
popularity contest to get viewers to tune in.
by the way, most reality shows have some minimal scripting, usually written by
an out of work/worthless comedian, except they're not called 'writers'. i forget
what they're called, but those awful lines that 15 year olds use, for example on
those dating shows on mtv, are written by these guys.

yeah it's the same kind of shows, not as good as deadliest catch (but mike does
a great job of narrator too) but this job is crazy, i wont say it's as dangerous
as deadliest catch but that chain seems like a killer for those of you who saw it
