the bleak old shop of stuff is a four-part bbc comedy series, premiering on bbc two on 19 december 2011. it is a parody of the works of charles dickens, drawing its title from bleak house and the old curiosity shop. it is a television adaptation of bleak expectations, a radio parody of dickens which ran from 2007 to 2011 and with which it shares the writer mark evans, producer gareth edwards and actor richard johnson. it stars robert webb, david mitchell, stephen fry, joshua mcguire, katherine parkinson and susy kane. |

it wasn't that bad. i smiled broadly a few times, and had fun watching the actors i know from other comedies in their roles. however, somehow it just felt so slooooooowww, making parts of it a bit tedious. still, worth a watch instead of all the christmas dreck or comedy xmas specials from weeks ago. |

started strong and with a good nod towards the teachers style of background jokes, as it went on it turned from sight and literary gags to dickens novels charachter parodies and slowed down a lot in the laughter department. best joke of the program though the urchins trying to stop the 'three' big ben clocks ringing. first urchin jumps into the cogs of big ben and crushed yells 'oww the cogs' second urchin jumps into the cogs of massive maurice and yells 'oww the cogs' third urchin runs up and stamps on tiny terry to crush it but being barefoot gets a minature cog stuck in his foot.... 'oww the cogs' edit: listings do say four parts, one hour first part followed by three 30 minute episodes. |
