there are a lot of them like that. way too many to make the x264 a viable alternative to xvid |

i was adverse to these x264 versions because of their somewhat smaller size and wasn't sure if they'd play on my stand-alone blu-ray player (but thankfully they do and i have to say the quality is better), but i wish the "scene" stuck to some form of rules about their file-size, like what they did with xvid's. weren't most half hour shows a maximum of 175mb and 1 hour shows (40-43 min without advertisements) all meant to be 350mb. here we've got a new standard (x264), but it's like the groups can make the file-sizes whatever they want, which makes it a lil harder to spot the fakes, but that being said, eztv's done a fantastic job of keeping up with all the releases each day. |

the old rules were essentially make it fit into one of these exact file sizes (mainly to make them fit on cd's and dvd's). the new rules are much more detailed and aim to have a consistant quality instead of consitant file size because most people don't care if they fit on cd's and dvd's anymore. you can't dictate a file size if you dictate a quality as the only way to adjust the file size is to adjust the quality. with the old way they either reduced the quality when a longer episode aired or they jumped up to the 550mb size and wasted a bunch of space doing it. |

agreed using x264(mp4) for the sd releases instead of xvid (avi) is the single stupidest thing they've ever done the avi is better quality (sound much better vid equal) and it works for everyone unlike the mp4 |

they should just release both formats. i for one don't like the mp4's because my dvdplayer wont play them.. but i know that there are people who like the mp4 better so..... my proposal: release both formats!! |

have you ever capped and encoded shows? it's already a lot of work, and your suggestion doubles the workload. have mercy on the cappers! |
