renovate her kitchen. an irresponsible womanizer, pete is trying to rebuild his contracting career after
ruining it with his gambling addiction and promiscuous ways. the highly strung alex, whose husband
was sent to prison for insider trading, is trying to maintain a busy work schedule while raising her 8-
year-old daughter charlie (joey king). aware of his reputation with women, alex insists she will fire
pete if he presents any problems. other cast members include alex's flirty sister screwsie (margo
harshman), pete's aspiring musician father walt (jeffrey tambor), charlie's babysitter simone (susan
park) and pete's contractor crew (j.b. smoove, jesse plemons, and pasha d. lychnikoff).

review by ellen gray, philadelphia daily news -

the way nbc is treating its newest show, "bent," you'd think it was ashamed to be seen with it.

unfortunately titled - if you miss the explanation in the pilot, you may not catch it again - and
even more unfortunately scheduled - in back-to-back episodes for three weeks, following "are you
there, chelsea?" and opposite abc's "modern family" and fox's "american idol" - "bent" isn't so
much being added to nbc's lineup tomorrow as burned off.

which is strange, because this unexpectedly charming, well-cast romantic comedy from tad quill
("scrubs," "spin city") represents something rare enough on nbc: a half-hour whose appeal might
conceivably extend beyond the cable-sized viewership of savagely smart but more insular series
like "30 rock" and "community."

assuming anyone ever sees it, that is.

amanda peet ("studio 60 on the sunset strip") is alex meyers, a recently divorced lawyer with a
daughter named charlie (joey king) and a yen for a new kitchen.

david walton ("perfect couples," "the loop") is pete riggins, surfer dude and recovering gambling
addict and (wait for it) hot contractor.

before you can say "who's the boss?" "bent" has introduced alex's wild-child sister (margo
harshman), pete's father (jeffrey tambor) - an unsuccessful actor whose motto, "bent but not
broken," is the basis for the title - and the members of pete's justifiably suspicious construction
crew. (among them: "friday night lights'" jesse plemons, once again teamed with a ladies' man
named riggins, and j.b. smoove of "curb your enthusiasm.")

i wasn't a huge fan of much beyond tambor when i first saw "bent's" pilot last summer, but nbc
sent out everything it had for review and before i knew it i'd watched all six in one evening.

and on what i laughably call my own time. i laughed. in spite of myself and in spite, too, of nbc,
which may no longer be able to distinguish comedy from kindling.

trend alert: like some other missing males this season, alex's ex pulled some white-collar
shenanigans. but at least he's just in prison, like the bernie madoff-like dad on cbs' "2 broke
girls," not disgraced and dead, like leslie bibb's amanda on abc's "gcb."

bottom line: the premise - boy meets girl, boy takes forever redoing girl's kitchen - may not
sound fresh, but there's something cooking in "bent" that's worth hanging out for.

and that's all you need to know. nbc is not fond of the people in shows it's gotten rid of. studio 60 on the
sunset strip was a fantastic and incredible piece of writing by aaron sorkin, who unlike the rest of
hollywood, wasn't afraid to tackle the complexity of having people in romantic relationships...especially the
more intense ones that normal people wouldn't dare get into. it was cancelled after one season. screw
nbc.

i'm going to watch this because amanda peet is in it as an homage to aaron sorkin. like i said
before...screw nbc.

the second sentence of the wikipedia description sounds like a porn script
"it stars amanda peet as a recently divorced lawyer and david walton as the irresponsible contractor hired

it sounds like any number of similar programs that have aired since,
oh, 1972? and the title? uh, taking the title of one of the most dramatic and moving plays/movies
about gay holocaust victims and making some flip "romantic comedy"? yeah, that really works. smh.

well, i'm a hughmongous fan of amanda peet, i think she's one of the most gifted commediennes us
of a ever will have. but...this series...hm, i can't wrap my head around it. all lines feel...somewhat
automatic. maybe it needs (me) to get used to the concept and shake down a bit. i hope so, amanda
is worth it :d

don't think it's you miksnubben,,,
probably is the storyline so far in the first 2 episodes.
sum up so far,,,,,,,

him.
man child is on chance number "way 2 many" in his life.
screws it up again,,,, she gives him one more,,, then screws it up again.
think that is 2 set the tone of his character,,,,,,
in other words,,,,, he's a loser in life that keeps messing up, dragging everybody down with him
that is near enough along the way.
humps anything that is female and has a heartbeat.
has no self control.
no responsibility's and does not want them.
bad boy surfer dude attitude and the brain capacity that goes along with that.
has the morals of a stripper.

her.
cheated on by ex-husband who is now in prison for fraud.
raising her daughter.
smart.
controlled.
kinda uptight.
bad taste in friends.
has a boyfriend that isn't exiting or "it" for her,,,,, she thinks anyway.
no sex for a year.
bad judge of character in contractors. (she hired him twice)

so no it's not you,,,,, this story has been done 2 death. there's no wrapping your head around it.
it was no fun 2 watch the first time they made a movie or tv series with this storyline and it's no
fun now.
where are the jokes ?????????? where was the fun ???????????
it's a comedy. or did i read the genre wrong.

i don't want the lowlife 2 hook up with amanda . i don't want him 2 see the light and lead a better
life.
seen it before, didn't care then and don't care now.
+ could they at least have gotten a better looking guy for his part. on a photograph he's okay, on
camera he's just a close call away from down syndrome.(no offense intended at people who have down
syndrome)

i give it half a season before it's pulled.
that might be wishful thinking on my part........
boggles my mind why californication is still running,,,,,,, who watches that show,,,, and why.
