i have to question the choice of file format.
i doubt .3gp will play on my wd live tv.
wouldn't an .mp4 or .mkv be a much better choice for this. .3gp is typically used for viewing on a smart
phone. the 1.3gb size of this file would be a bit too large for phone viewing.
pleeeaase guys.... mp4 or mkv

i would have to agree. i watch my stuff on a stand alone lg player networked with my pc. it doesn't
support this file format. in fact, i may be a bit behind here, but before tonight i'd never even
heard of it.

it works on quicktime or just change the extension from 3gp to mp4. works fine on vlc as mp4

any player.. thats a load of bullshit.. vlc didnt play it.. i had to
use windows media player for the first time in years..
just incase ur wondering.. this filetype is asociated with mobile
phones/cell phones but real player or windows media player
plays them easily enough.
didnt try the change file extention.. not about to now either.. anyhows,
if this is an april fools prank.. tut tut eztv.. thought this site was more
grown up than what its now become.

no, the file mane hasn't just been changed, this is a true 3gp file. changing the file extension

just been doing a bit of reading on 3gp and it seems it encodes at a lower bitrate than the better
quality mp4 format due to it being primarily designed for mobile phones. this will be no good for my
52" screen. also it seems 3gp is not widely supported widely outside of portable devices. i doubt
many dlna devices will play this but will experiment with changing the extension to mp4... see if
that works.

i don't see much complaining here... really. this is just discussion about a file format that won't
play on most dlna devices. it may be free as such but if someone goes to the trouble of encoding the
video, why do it in a format that is not only lower quality (when there are better options out there
such as mp4) but also won't play on peoples devices.
eztv recently made a point of making the change from avi to mp4 because of quality ( a good move i
thought)... so what's with the 3gp which is a lower quality format?

i don't know why asap and lol etc have used a different file extension since april fools day ends at
midday on the 1st april.
anyways, these are not lower quality. they are the same codec and bitrate as the mp4's we've been
getting since the move to x264 a while back. i'm not sure why people are saying they are lower quality
unless they're just making an assumption based on the file extension without even checking them. if this is
the case then they are clearly a bit special.
