daniel radcliffe does a brilliant job. while it could have been done in the flavor of young herriot or bleak old shop of stuff, it differentiates itself to perfection. wonderfully comic without crossing over into 'carry on - up the volga' territory. jon hamm's performance is beautifully subtle and understated. the acting, directing, production choices were exactly right for the material. some of the interaction between the younger and older doctor's selves is confusing - notably the battle over the syringe, and the fight in the 'library' over the obstetrics textbook. even a doctor who fan such as myself was left baffled at how the timey-wimey of that interplay works out. bottom line (and regardless of that small criticism)...bravo, and a big "well done" to all concerned. |
