basically a want to be inbetweeners set in ancient rome. where it's meant to be quite contemporary, but the writers know absolutely zero and put no attempt at knowing anything about ancient rome. it's just strange. i don't mind the contemporary nature, but at least some evidence the writers put more than the most passing of thoughts into it being ancient rome. maybe it's like super subtle jokes which don't work. things like in every episode people are eating corn. is that meant to be deliberate? however i just think it's lazy, ignorant and really speaks to how little thought or knowledge of the period has gone into it. with out the most basic knowledge or thought, it ultimately i can't see the show having any legs. |

you do realize that it's a sitcom and not a documentary, don't you? try not to take it so seriously |

still, the setting makes no sense. reading the description, i was expecting something blackadder-ish. now, the jokes and banter are pretty funny, but it doesn't make any sense in the setting of the old rome. they could just as well put in into the dark ages, or even the renaissance, all they have to do is change a few words (centurions becomes city guard or something like that). it's like they wrote it, and then just had a look around what sets weren't used at the moment. the thing that ruined it for me: the girl saying "coolio". my god... edit: the second episode was much better. guess they where struggling with the theme in this one. |

it's still a funny show, funnier than most. no idea why you decided to troll about this at all. sounds to me like you have a lot of ideas on what doesn't make a good show, perhaps you should create your own. |

writing comedy is serious business... think of how many comedys fail because they are just not funny and doing due research to come up with more material is important. |

i like too. so what if it's like the inbetweeners. how many shows are like other shows anyway? i think the roman theme is good. opens the doors for other eras. |
