leather boots, tight jeans, no bathing, no feminine hygiene products ... i don't even want to imagine what that smells like. |

why is it 620mb for one episode? i don't understand how every episode this season has been roughly 43 minutes long, yet they range from 269mb (episode 6) to this one of 620mb. a small difference is understandable, but more than double the size for the same amount of time?? |

if your question is genuine, and not a thinly veiled complaint, here is a brief explanation: it is normal for the walking dead x264 video files to be up to twice the size of other shows of the same length, and for the size to vary greatly from episode to episode. the walking dead is filmed on 16mm, rather than 35mm, to give the show a grainy grittier look and feel. maintaining the grainy detail of the film (and other aspects) requires less compression, and less compression equals larger file sizes. file size is tied to the complexity of the source material (i.e. still vs. moving, grainy vs solid, number of colors, etc.), and how much compression can be applied to any given frame and still maintain the fixed quality setting (crf). crf guide (constant rate factor). http://pastebin.com/bjyeveai the sd x264 tv releasing standards 2012. http://scenerules.irc.gs/n.html?id=2012_sdtvx264u1.nfo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/video_codec http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/x264 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/h.264/mpeg-4_avc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/display_resolution http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bit_rate#video |

well, that was surprisingly bad episode. technical quality is ok. about the size... one would need detailed technical info about each file in order to explain the size differences. my guess it's just the differences in the encoding methods used, and this time around the choices were worse. perhaps the encoder (the person) was experimenting. there may have even been an inexperienced person doing the capping. technically it's possible to bloat 5 minutes of pitch black darkness up to untold gigabytes. edit: ninja'd |

good guesswork, but... no. no. no. no, not within the confines of the sd x264 tv releasing standards 2012. |

i thought it was a good episode, @billy: you can't rush scenes that are meant to convey an emotion and that was the point,
