scifi had a hd feed for sometime now. hence for example the sga 720p we all
enjoyed.

i'm glad to have a 720p version of bsg and was looking forward to it.
how ever sga started at 720p on the movie network in canada, because scifi had
not lauched it's hd version yet. this is why the 720p version of atlantis was
released on tuesdays (tmn showed atlantis hd on monday).

anyway, i'm pleased and can't wait to rewatch that episode in hd!!

nice that it's in hd -- too bad the format's not usable. mkv? what's wrong
with avi?

yes, i'm sure there are video players that will handle it.

well, bummer, but i gotta pass over this because my dvd player will not.

.mkv doesnt work on xbox 360 simply because of the container. which i suspect is
the most widely owned streaming media capable device. so if "the scene" (fallout
boy fans are they) likes it, then its another ridiculous bit of quasi official
bullshit made up by obsessive compulsive nerds that doesnt benefit anyone. dont
pick a format everyone can use guys!

it seems like either the source or the encode is bad?

it looks very grainy, not much better than the 350mb version :/

comparing it to the hr 264 versions of shows like lost and jericho, it doesnt
seem anywhere near as good?

finally!! bsg in 720p! yayyyyyy

hey guys, i just want to say to the poeple that are bitching about it being mkv.
i kind of agree with you, for now. but give it time, the dvd industry will
adapt to what the consumer wants; ie. they will eventually make players that can
play these formats.

remember back in the day when no one could play divx; and instead you had to
convert to 2cd-skvcd\'a (or something similar)? same thing; industry adapted.
they will again. 100% confidence.

you are new aren't you? mkv is the container of choice by the scene for h.264
files and is perfectly usable with either vlc player or mpc with coreavc.

and of course your dvd player is not going to handle it. and would not even if
it was avi as it was not built to handle hd.

you want to watch hd? you need to invest in the needed infrastructure...

totally agree on this. what's wrong with avi? how about everything? at least mkv
kan hold multiple subs and audio without the need for extra files on your pc.
for that matter: mkv is more standard nowadays than divx, since the coming of hd.

buy a simpel vga card with dvi, connect dvi-hdmi converter and plug cable into
tv. there. done. no dvd's needed, no dependencies except for software-codecs.
all players support it, just get the codec. you'll never meet questions when
playing downloaded media again.
