--reuters-- richard dreyfuss has joined zooey deschanel and alan cumming in the cast of sci fi channel's upcoming miniseries tin man, a reimagined fantasy take on frank baum's book the wizard of oz. dreyfuss will play a wizard known as the mystic man in the mini, which stars deschanel as dg, a young woman plucked from her humdrum life and thrust into the outer zone, aka the o.z., which is filled with wonder and oppressed by dark magic. cumming plays glitch, an odd man missing half his brain who becomes one of a trio of companions who join dg on her journey down the fabled old road that leads to the mystic man. the other two roles--raw, a quietly powerful wolverinelike creature longing for inner courage, and cain, a heroic former policeman (known as tin men) seeking vengeance for his scarred heart--have not yet been cast. the tentatively titled six-hour miniseries is slated to begin production this month in vancouver for a december premiere.
