The top 10 artists performed on The Voice tonight, all vying for spots in next week’s semifinal round of live shows. 

The night started with Jeffery Austin from Gwen Stefani’s team singing “Jealous” by Labrinth. Austin went with a more formal look for this performance, wearing a suit and keeping himself confined to a standing mic. The lesser known song was gorgeous, and Austin really commanded it, leading to his personal best performance. He showed a lot of improvement and likely guaranteed himself a spot in the semifinal next week.

Blake Shelton’s Emily Ann Roberts sang next. She chose “She’s Got You” by Patsy Cline, and it was another strong performance. Roberts is only 17-years-old, but she already has a strong grasp of who she is an artist and what she wants her sound to be. This performance fit well with that vision, and according to Shelton, country music fans are drawn to her. “You sing with such an old soul,” Pharrell said. And as Adam Levine pointed out, her growth over time has been really impressive.

Braiden Sunshine from Team Gwen sang “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, which was a different song choice for him, but it was the right choice. Sunshine usually goes with throwback songs, but singing a more contemporary indie pop song allowed him to show range and give a really bold performance that is easily his most memorable. He worked the crowd and hit the high notes, and the coaches were unanimously smitten. Shelton described Sunshine as a throwback to the 1980s.

Team Adam’s country artist Shelby Brown was up next, singing “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill in memory of her grandfather. Brown has really opened up over time in this competition, and tonight she gave a confident and emotional performance. “I think that honestly this was your best performance,” Pharrell said, noting that she really connected to the intention of the song.

Korin Bukowski, who has been spared by the audience instant save two weeks in a row, returned this week to try to prove why she deserved those extra chances. She made a bold song choice that was much different than what she has been singing all season, choosing “Same Old Love” by Selena Gomez. According to Bukowksi, this song is closer to what she hopes to do as an artist, but she hasn’t shown this side to her artistry yet in the competition. Finally, Bukowski busted out something truly engaging and powerful. It was her best performance. Her runs were on point, and she played with dynamics more than she ever has before. Hopefully she won’t find herself in the bottom two again tomorrow night.

Continuing her streak of strong and original song choices, Team Adam’s Amy Vachal took on “Bye, Bye, Bye” by N*SYNC tonight. She did a slow and stripped down version, and her stylized sound took the hit pop song to the next level. It was another mesmerizing performance from Vachal, who has crafted a very distinct image for herself in the competition.

Jordan Smith was up next, singing “Hallelujah.” Smith has broken into the top 10 on iTunes every week this season, and tonight, he’ll likely continue that streak. As his coach Levine said, Smith can do just about anything. He can sing anything, too, and his performance of such an iconic song did not disappoint. Smith is easily heading to the semifinals. “Every time you get on stage, it’s always good,” Shelton said. The coaches were almost at a loss for words because of how consistently great Smith is. Pharrell described his singing as effortless. Levine added that he gets chills when he sings.

After Stefani performed her new song “Used To Love You,” Team Blake’s Zach Seabaugh performed “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen. Shelton and the band put together a fun arrangement, and the song played to Seabaugh’s strengths. Seabaugh was in his element, showing off not only killer vocals but also really great performing abilities. “That was your best performance,” Shelton said. “I’ll see you in the finale,” he added.

Team Pharrell’s Madi Davis, who really came into her own last week, sang “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper tonight. She did a slowed down rendition that let her draw out the vocals, and it was another solid performance, though not quite as much of a standout moment as her performance of “Love Is Blindness” last week. Still, it was an impressive arrangement that allowed Davis to show who she is as an artist. Shelton said he wanted to buy her version himself.

Closing out the night, Barrett Baber sang “I’d Love To Lay You Down” by Conway Twitty. He kept things simple tonight, accompanying himself on the guitar and remaining seated. But Baber’s performance skills were still on display even though he wasn’t running all over the stage. It was an understated and yet moving performance, and as Levine pointed out, this type of song is so genuinely true to who Baber is. “I’ve never heard you sing better than that,” Shelton said.

Tomorrow night, one artist will be eliminated and the audience will have another chance to save someone via Twitter. Everyone did so well tonight that it’s hard to imagine who will be cut. Who do you think it will be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
