i always have trouble keeping aldrich ames and robert hanssen straight. and the fact that they were both kgb/gru moles at the same time apparently made it harder for u.s. intelligence to ferret them out. the basic things to remember are that hanssen was fbi whereas ames was cia. also, hanssen was very clever but unbalanced and ames was greedy and incompetent. hansen: 2002 tv movie- 'master spy: the robert hanssen story' starring william hurt and written by norman mailer in the lawrence schiller movie of the week phase of his career 2007 theatrical film- 'breach' starring ryan phillipe and chris cooper ames: 1998 tv movie- 'aldrich ames: traitor within' starring timothy hutton (leverage) 2014: this |

ps: too bad we don't refer to embedded sources who covertly relay secrets to their enemies as rabbits because then the use of "ferret out" would be more apt
