looking through some of these threads here and other places like imdb and
whatnot, i'm just curious, whats the deal with all the "stupid americans"
posts?

we're not all rednecks.
we don't all love war. unless spielberg has something to do with it
we don't all live in hollywood and churn out god-awful movies left and right.
we don't all, i hope you get the point.

i just don't get it. especially here, this isn't some political or news site
where we all come to spew our beliefs on the world. we all come here for the
same thing, to download tv shows!

now i really could give 2 shits less about someone on the internet's opinion,
i'm really just curious as to why would someone bring that type of crap to a
board like this.

what country does get made of by others?

off the top of my head stuff i remember hearing
france: frog jokes
london: bad teeth
mexico: racial jokes stuff i'm not gonna get into (some involving bad jobs)
german: nazi stuff

in this day and age its natural for countries to get made fun of
they might have to think of some new stuff when usa, mexico,
canada become the american union

good point, but seriously, alot of stuff is said just in hatred about the us,
not just good natured fun

because we meddle and we havent the right.we try to impose our ways on others.
we think anything is allowed for profit. we think the rules of the world dont
apply to us. if others use coercive measures we call it torture, when we use
torture we call it coercive measures. we try to make other countries follow
our copyright laws by threatening them with wto sanctions. we do not have
freedom anymore but keep claiming we do. we strip away our own freedoms in the
name of safety. i'm an american. i love this country but i hate this
government.

i guess i've missed a lot here because i really havn't seen a lot of hatred
towards the usa. what i have seen a lot of is any time someone gets pissed at
someone else, they tend to say something like "what do you expect from an
american" (regardless of what country they are from).

personally, i'm canadian, but i've travelled coast to coast in canada, and to
almost every state in america except hawaii (dammit...lol). to say there's
something generically wrong with americans (or any country or culture for that
matter) is ludicrous. jokes are another thing and if something is said in
jest, you have to have a sense of humor about it (i love a good newfie joke!).
as long as the person telling the joke can take it return, it should all be
good then.

regarding governments...every country has a problem with their government. i
think that's universal. some may be more newsworthy than others, but i think
we all have an inherant distrust of our own "reigning bodies". there is bad in
all cultures, but we don't need to generalise an entire country. in my own
experience, americans have always been superb people, easy to get along with,
converse with and i have nothing bad to say about them (except possibly fix
some of the damn potholes in your highways! )

alot of americans can come across as obnoxious and ignorant. with bush at the
helm this can easily be considered as the stereotype in american culture.

and its also wrong...

the world wide web is generally credited to an englishman - sir tim berners-lee
and his belgian counterpart, robert cailliau whilst they were working at cern in
switzerland...

i refer any who wishes to argue this point out of patriotic pride or otherwise
to: http://info.cern.ch/

there are many many reasons people are anti-american. very successful capitalism
only looks good to the people who profit from it, to most others it just looks
like greed. america invented mcdonald's, just something to think about.

you are still essentially a child nation with very little history behind you.
your government still believes in the concepts of good and evil, instead of
realising that everything is shades of grey and you impose your "good" on the
world.

your news channels also do you a disservice and portray americas as shallow clich

hey

a lot of its just for jokes but then other people have there prejudices for
a lot of reasons. a lot of americans come of as being cocky thinking there
country is the best but not just the best but the best by a lot... when people
arent really impressed. then there is the fact that allot of americans dont know
allot about anything out side there state/country. i drove through the usa once
when i was moving and the hotel clerk didnt know where saskatchewan was and its
the the province just north of his state. or then you can watch stuff like rick
mercer talking to americans where they think we have a seal hunt in the prairies
or are capital building is an igloo. now that is just how some people are but it
does build up stereo types and then when we meet some americans online who dont
say the smartest things we associate them with the stereo type.

basically from my view allot has to do with americans lack of information about
the out side world. just my two cents...

later dayz

like when people can't spell the simplest of things correctly??

allot: to parcel out or distribute

a lot: very many

i'd say it's the us foreign policy most of all. and you can thank the neocons
for that.

as for 'stupid americans', well, as someone already said in this thread, it's
just a stupid stereotype.

i dont know if thats true but who implemented it and made it what it is today.
the fact is there would be no internet as it is today if it werent for
america. (arpanet)

yup, it's true. the arpanet network was a us army project aimed at creating a
computer network that would not be vulnerable to a nuclear attack (wiping out
several nodes). tcp/ip was invented for the purpose.
internet as we know it came about when tim barnes-lee & company invented the
http protocol - web pages.

my two cents (see my americanism and smile folks):

individually i find that i actually get along with americans (from the
usa)better then i do with most non-americans due to their openness and
friendliness.

the problem i have is when americans are found in groups then i find them
annoying and prefer not to associate with them as they seem to develop a
superiority complex regarding almost any and every thing and seem to feel that
they need to educate not only each other but any other poor soul they happen to
come across.

i can honestly say some of my best friends are american but i make an effort to
avoid my friends whenever they are involved with other americans.
