the uk office was one of those shows where gervias explores what
it's like to be in embarrassing situations, like curb. if you
watch the rickey gervais meets larry david, gary shandling,
and christopher guest specials he did, you'll see how he really
finds those difficult moments of life the most humorous. he
makes his boss character someone creepy, unfortunately, when
he does that, and garreth is just as bad.

the us office is not about embarrassing situations,
and if you were looking to see the everyday man
fighting those indignities, you won't find him.
the creepy character in the usa would not have been
successful, because there are too many of them in
real life around here. instead what they went for
was a likable boss, and garreth in this version is
just harmless.

this show is, without a doubt, the best advertisement
for not allowing americans
to remake classic british comedy programs.

gervais' original offering was brilliant and combined subtlety and the bloody
obvious to capture the "typical" office environment perfectly.

i managed to force myself to sit through two episodes of the american remake and
was completely horrified with the butchery they performed to it.

to think that they have continued to make a fourth season (and that there are
tastless clowns out there watching it) saddens me.

the yanks should stick to what they are good at - crime and drama - leave the
comedy to the brits and aussies.

where do i even begin? this version of the office has grown into its own style
and sense of humour and now stands out as one of the funniest shows on tv. the
name and the setting in a paper company are about the only things remaining from
the original. and as for the 'yanks' not being good at comedy-you are clearly
insanely jingoistic.

the us office did not work well when it directly used storylines from the uk
version. in season 2 they started to put their own spin on it, and that's why it
has turned into something totally different (apart from the premise of an office
setting). steve carrells character is nothing like ricky gervais', michael is so
enthusuastic about working at dunder mifflin & loves the place. whereas david
was just waiting to get the axe, he never really shows any drive to help save
his branch.

i think that ricky tends to play all his roles the same, the bumbling awkward
loser, and it gets too much.

can't wait to watch this week!

did anyone else expect ricky gervais to be something other than he is, because
he is just david brent. im from the u.k and imo the u.s version totally out does
the u.k version. oh and ricky gervais just plays himself which i would hardly
describe as talent. rock on steve carrell.

anyone saying something is "better than" than the us is absurd. everyone knows
that the us is better at everything.

canada is just a bunch of ice and moose.

sorry to feed the troll but when the us version started out, it was worse than
the uk version. season 2 and 3 though really are great stuff though, and are
some of the funniest things on television.

season 4 though is not really that great yet, though. i'm ready for half hour
episodes.
