"seed please!" <-- i saw one of these and felt like talking about it (feel free
to ignore). i never really understood the usefulness of such comments for newly
released torrents. people who take time to read forum comments probably already
know seeding is important, and as for those who know they should but don't,
"seed please" ain't really gonna change their minds.

plus, maybe it is just me, but i have *never* had a problem of not enough
seeders on an eztv torrent. we all know newly released torrents need a little
time to build up a seed base. common sense right? so what's the deal with "seed
please!"? (obvious exception being older torrents with 0 seeders and folks
wanting to complete their files.)

on forums where there is not an active moderator base with time to prune
useless/ot/fluff posts, you'll get stuff like that. as to why someone would post
a seed request in the forum post about a release instead of on the torrent page
of whatever site they got the torrent from :/ common sense is rarely common.

but it's really just another shining example of today's society in general.
people want things now, they don't want to wait. no matter the cost (even
worse if it's for free). patience no longer seems to be a virtue....it's been
lost completely. people think that it's their god given right, because they
walk the earth, that they be given what they want, when they want and how they
want it.

end of mini rant

gah. it's also annoying when they are like "thanks from blahblahblah." no one
gives two shits where you are from. and no one is going to care about the
"thank you", because there is no one here to say "you're welcome".

gaaaah!

i find it far more annoying when someone actually has the audacity
to complain
about thankful users expressing their gratitude for a free service.

especially when it's coming from someone who neither owns nor works for this site.

this site's owners and admins put a lot of time and effort into providing an
endless amount of episodes for anyone and everyone from all corners of the world.

if it wasn't for this site's generosity, many people wouldn't even have an
opportunity to see a lot of shows.

also i'd like to point out that this site is absolutely add free.

the quality control of the material distributed is topnotch and are always
posted in a timely matter.

you never have to worry about fakes, viruses, trojans, spyware, malware,
extracting compressed rar files, or any other of that bullshit.

the sites owners doesn't accept donations and pay for all of this out of their
own pocket, and believe me...running a site like this isn't cheap.

people like you come off looking like ungrateful fucks and i don't give "two
shits" that having to scroll through a few thank you posts is such an
awful heavy burden for you.

you obviously don't care about thankful users, but i'm more than certain that
the sites owners and admins do.

i am grateful. very much, so. i notice all the incredible effort that goes
into the running of this site.

it just bugs me when i have to scroll through multiple pages of "thank you from
xyzland" to find out whether everything is fine with a torrent.

it's not so much the thank yous themselves, as it is the sheer amount of them,
and the fact that they take up a lot of space. and by space, i mean
bandwidth...and by bandwidth, i mean even more money that needs to be spent by
the owners to cover the cost of the myriad of ever-proliferating thank yous. i
wasn't saying that there were not people here to appreciate the thanks', but
instead that in all likelihood they simply won't see them. that doesm't make
them any less important; it just makes them less necessary.

such an enormous use of a word or a set of words tends to degrade their value(s)
overall. it's like saying sorry. nowadays it's used as a minor courtesy, lest
someone actually feels guilt for a change. much like sorry, the many thank
yous, in my opinion, just sound empty. a courtesy. a simple contrivance of
placation to make the the one who thank actually feel as though they have done
something...good. how many times have you said thank you without even thinking
about, or meaning, it? quite many, i would assume. besides, i am quite
positive that the site owners know how grateful the users are by now.

oh, and i should mention...it's not that i have the audacity to complain about
the grateful users expressing their thanks, themselves...it's that i have the
audacity to complain about how those grateful users go about expressing their
thanks. one would think that by now, seeding would be thanks enough. but as i
will (almost) always concede: perhaps i'm wrong.

tvfan, i take it that this is a bit of a sore point for you????
i haven't seen you go on like this for ages!!
[#79925] Written by: justcommenting [18/02/2008, 05:33]
tvfan, the difference is, very simply, that you'll see any of those maybe once or twice in a given thread,
compared to a good (well, bad) ~40 'thank you' messages for popular shows. 12916 is right on every
point.

until the site\'s owners and/or admins outlaw the thank you posts
and makes a
rule against it, anyone who may have a problem with them are just gonna have to
live with it. complaining about it is what can be seen as spam, and personally i
don\'t see this site telling anyone it\'s against the rules to say thanks. the
whole idea of anyone complaining about someone saying thank you is just crazy to
me.

so what about the people who complain about the "seed please" posts? is that
spam too? i guess you also are saying that until the site's owners and/or
admins outlaw the seed please posts and make a rule against it, anyone who may
have a problem with them are just gonna have to live with it.

or are we only selectively bitching about people who complain about what
generally amount spam posts?

you know, i don't think there ever was, just as much as i doubt there is a
chance whatsoever of me getting through to you. i have my opinion; you have yours.
some people agree with me; some with you.

i completely understand where you are coming from. sadly, i don't think you
understand the same for me.

either way, this useless argument isn't going to change the problem that i
believe to exist, apart from possibly bringing it to the attention of the
admins. beyond that, it's pointless, and i am tiring of it quickly.

agree to disagree.

the only paradoxical statement that has ever actually annoyed me. or is it an
oxymoron.

but anyways, yes, lets.

and a pre "fuck you" to anyone who posts something along the lines of "awwww"
anywhere after this. and if you do...well then i am pretty sure tvfan will have
to smack a bitch. am i right?

*throwing her two and a half cents in to the mix*

i don\'t mind the thank you\'s, but for me, its frustrating when you get 50 thank
you\'s from people who havn\'t actually downloaded or watched it yet.... i\'d love
it if the people who said thank you could also give some info on the release...
i\'ve got a cap on my speed and my data so i find any comments on the release
important. one episode takes me about a day to d/l (yes, listen for the
violins, they are playing just for me) but it means if its a crappy release,
thats a day wasted.

i\'m a firm believer of thanking people for things, i mean it is pure politeness,
but i have to be honest when i say it gets annoying scrolling through 4 pages of
thanks for one comment saying \"badly out of sync, missing last 10 mins\"

i love the way mininova does it, where you can say thanks from your country in a
seperate place. sure it doesn\'t stop them all, but it does minimise it, while
still being able to show your appreciation

right stopping now before i annoy anyone :d

*bats her eyelashes softly*

personally i think thank yous are fine, except when its clear people are more
interested in being the first one to post than the actual torrent. it is
annoying that when you go to a thread with thirty comments and fifteen are
thank yous, forteen are people complaining about saying thank you and one will
actual have something useful to say about the torrent or the programme but
i've gotten used to it now.
as far as people begging for seeds, that is just stupidity you are either
using ancient software that doesn't do dht, i was using !burst until a few
months ago simply out of inertia and the difference when i switched to
utorrent was astonishing, or they are asking for stuff that is dead and it
isn't coming back. all you can do is suggest an update to them and if they
ignore the advice just leave them to their fate of eternally unfinished
downloads.
