does any's wmp crash when you try to play this episode? i know i can play it
in vlc but was wondering if anyone knew why it does that once in a while
without shows too. am i missing a codec?
[#80336] Written by: alipuk [19/02/2008, 16:58]
yeah i have the same problem, it only seems to work in vlc
[#80339] Written by: schmock [19/02/2008, 17:11]
same problem here. runs on vlc, but crappy wmp tells me about missing codecs.
avicheck says:

file: x:\border_107.avi
total streams: 2
running time: 0:00:00
index chunk: no
interleaved: yes
max bytes per sec: 0
audio: 0 - mp3 (0x55)
average bitrate per sec: 133 kb/s
samples rate: 48000 hz
channels: 2
bits per sample: 0
variable bitrate: yes (64, 96, 128)
video: xvid
b-vop: yes
s(gmc)-vop: no
quarterpixel: no
frame size: 624 x 352
frames rate: 23.976
color depth: 12
total frames: 0

elapsed time 00:00

unfortunately, this tells me anything. the real bad thing is, i can't play this
file on my standalones, which i supposed until now to play everything. maybe i
have to recode it with virtualdub or super or... just wait for the opportunity
of a proper one

this is not a codec problem.

g-spot reads:

corrupt avi header

well played sir, will try this out later
[#80369] Written by: Goodall [19/02/2008, 22:31]
definitely a corrupt header problem, surely this deserves a nuke, in the
meantime opening it in vdm allows it to rebuild the header information and you
can save the new avi, hope this gets sorted though, as im sure there are plenty
of users without vdm or without the knowledge to use it.

edit

looks like the vdm fix leaves the audio out of sync, could be fixed by
decompressing the original audio and re compressing it in cbr from the .wav

first post here so don\'t shout at me if i do it wrong!
im a complete novice to all this avi stuff but ive had trouble before
with real player and wmp not playing avi\'s.

here\'s my solution:
download avs video convertor and simply convert your avi into another
avi. i didn\'t change any settings, and it converted the avi into xvid
(you can choose divx if you want but i don\'t know what the difference is,
feel free to help me with this) and it takes around 30-40 mins for a 350mb
file.
the only drawbacks are 1) the file size jumps to over 800mb and 2) the speech
sync is very slightly out but you can correct this with another downloaded
program virtualdub.

as i said before i don\'t understand about avi\'s and codecs etc, but if
you\'re
like me and are just happy if everything works ok this could be the fix for
you.

i think i got it by using freeware "super (c) v2007.build23 (july 4, 2007) by
erightsoft". you find this and higher versions via g**gle, yah** or other
search-engines
1) select ffmpeg
2) go to video and simply select "stream copy"
3) go to audio and simply select "stream copy"
4) right click into the open field near the bottom and select the corrupted
border.avi-file
5) click "open" or "select" or however it's called in your language (in german
it's "

pardon my ignorance, but should not this kind of problem be prompting someone
at eztv or associates to contact the source distributor or capper to get a
repack or proper or whatever the name should be for a correction to this file?

i am assuming that this is what eztv usually does when it "nukes" a file and
posts a new torrent for the correction.

am i wrong in this statement?
am i missing something?

eztv has nothing to do with the cappers and wouldn't know how to contact them
if they tried. eztv isn't in the scene and the scene hates torrenters. they
have no say over what gets nuked, thats all handled in the scene.

that being said there is a repack for this which fixes the problem. maybe eztv
doesnt give a shit about you enough to post it. the cappers of the shows
certaintly dont care about the eztv users.

you seem to be informed about this repack. could you perhaps point us in the
right direction please?

i also tried the ed2k network, but did not seem to find any repack there
either. i even tried my luck at a google search.

anyway, maybe you will be so kind as to help us folk out with directions to
the nearest repack supply.

my thanks for the enlightenment!

use: isohunt.com.
type in the border
select for tv shows only
you'll see 2 copies of what looks like the same file for season 1 episode 7.
one was posted a few hours before the other. this earlier one is the one with
the screw-up. download the second one.
cross your fingers!
