i honestly would rather have hr releases than 720p. i can watch hr fine, and i
really enjoy the increased quality, but with 720p my old computer can't keep up
and it is unwatchable. it's just too cpu intensive..

mkv + 720p h264 + ac3 = perfect combination.
keep it coming, 720p releases of heroes would be great too.

nm if you read this post before i edited it. i read the rest of the posts and
figured it out.

i tried vlc, worked fine - no skips or off sync audio, etc. i also then
downloaded the coreavc codec, and now it will play through windows media player,
no problems.

my specs:

athlon 64 x2 3800+ @ 2.4 ghz
2gb pc3200 cas2.5
radeon x300

in vlc, if i change the cpu affinity to just one core, it will take that core to
about 80%. i guess that tells you that one would need a 2.0ghz athlon 64 to run
this smoothly with my configuration (and little overhead from other programs),
using vlc.

core avc is a little better, but not hugely so. it is around 65% for most of the
time. do the math for what you'd need.

and how can i go about encoding into this same format and quality? i get these ota.

also, i haven't tried yet, will these play through xp media center? that is very
important to me (i will try later). edit: i tried and this file type doesn't
show... anything i can do?

thx!

btw, upped to 128%!

as stated by others, you definitely need to use coveavc to
decode x264.
without it, even media player classic (mpc) is choppy or out of sync.
of course, this is only worth it for those who enjoy watching on their
pc screen, which i don't.

for me, i visit two hdtv sites where i get 720p versions (or .ts) of
heroes and stargate atlantis. but from there i use river past software
to convert from 1280x720 to 720x480. from there i can transfer them to
a dvd as *.avi files which my hdmi-capable xvid-enabled dvd player can
read (720x480 is the max res). i would need to have a blu-ray dvd player
to play the 720p versions (not going to pay for that anytime soon).

in other words, the 720p file is pointless for my dvd player, except that
it can up-convert to my hdtv 1080i resolution. currently, my only other
solution which i am investigating is to purchase an hdtv media streamer
(player) such as dlink dsm-520 or linksys kiss dp-600. these allow a wifi
connection to your pc network to access your audio/video files.
does anyone have any experiences to share with these media streamers ??

there are those of us who have a dedicated htpc (or in my case, two) which
connects directly to their television to view this kind of content.

for me, this is a completely perfect solution!

i am supportive of better quality, but if 1 epsiode of an hour show is going
to be almost 800meg forget it, people still have bandwith limits and i
honestly think doing a 576p medium definition with the 264 codec would be a
good comprimise and would offer better quality at the same filesizes maybe 40-
60 meg more

eliminate hr and make it 720p and the 350mb file!
[#7717] Written by: Krypto [10/12/2006, 14:53]
there is much more call for the hr 700mb files than for the 720p...

just about everybody can play the hr versions, ehether they want to or not...
even if you have a download limit you can still likely play the file..

the 720p on the other hand.. not everyone has the hardware to run it...

right there should be the difinitive answer as to what eztv should distribute...
if you want the 720p files, there are other places you can pick them up (just
like eztv did)... but the hr files will be the ones in true demand soon..

nothing has been confirmed yet. this was a trial and we will be gathering
data to see how things will work out.

the xbox 360 now suports playback hd films in wmv , now is the more
available solution to see the file in hd ready tv

x264 and xvid are at present the only files being released by the scene - eztv
doesn't do the capping, and as such cannot do wmv or any other format.

can anyone help me out with this?
trying to figure out if my monitor will support these files. or what
they "will" play properly. i have a gem 19" tft lcd model#gl-1920b. here is
info on it here. h**p://www.scanport.com/lcd_spec_gl-1920b.html - thanks.

every computer monitor can play any non mpaa/(drm) media but, its pointless as
to say play 1920*1080 media on a 1024*768 monitor where 720p (ignore the p)
would more be suited. basically the media player will open the file if the media
exceeds the resolution of your monitor you'll miss soem of it when not it full
screen mode (like looking at a picture larger than your monitors resolution). in
full screen mode it will resize the media file to fit your monitors resolution.
also if the media file is less than your monitor res fullscreen mode will bump
it up.

i think the 720p is great, but i still favour the 350 mb releases -- i'm on a
60 gb cap, and i'd kill my cap w/ 720p dls.
